After my training in London I established a Piano Workshop at SNAPE MALTINGS<\/strong>, for many years employing up to 5 tuner\/technicians.<\/p>\n

SNAPE MALTINGS<\/strong> is a huge complex of granaries and malthouses that nestle beside the River Alde. Formerly one of the largest working maltings in East Anglia, barley was once processed here for the brewing industry. Originally built by Newson Garrett in 1846 it had its own railway line connecting to Saxmundham. Newson was the younger brother of Richard Garrett, who inherited the Garrett Works at Leiston (now Longshop Museum). One of his daughters achieved fame as the remarkable Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, a suffragette and the first woman to qualify as a Doctor in Great Britain.<\/p>\n

In 1967 Snape Maltings Concert Hall was opened as a main venue for the Aldeburgh Festival<\/strong>, brainchild of composer Benjamin Britten and tenor Peter Pears. The retail and musical aspects of the complex have since developed an international reputation.<\/p>\n
